So… where to start? Maybe with how this started – with the Great British Bake Off (GBBO).
For those outside of the UK or who have just never head of it, GBBO is a TV show whereby a group of amateur bakers compete against each other in various baking challenges, with one getting eliminated each week until there is an eventual winner at the end of the series. The show is hosted by Mel and Sue and judged by baking aficionados Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
Anyway, the deadline for contestant applications has just passed again and I have not applied again, despite goading from firends, family and colleagues. I love to bake and I’ve had a lot of experience with cakes and biscuits and other bits and bobs, but do not feel I’m quite up to the level with other things like pastry or flans for and so I chose not to apply (that may have something to do with my perfectionist tendencies).
So the idea is over the next 12 months I’m going to practise, research and perfect and next year I will definitely apply, hence the title of the blog, ‘Heading to (Paul) Hollywood’.
There are just a few rules:
1. I must bake something I’ve never tried before
2. I must bake at least once a week on average
3. Each recipe must be tried and testing by willing volunteers
Let’s get baking!
